Go shorty!

"I fucking despise hip hop. Loathe it. Eminem is a fucking idiot and I find 50 Cent the most distasteful character I have ever crossed in my life. It's so negative. Eminem's new song about his kid - isn't it the most ridiculous piece of music you have ever heard in your life? I just don't like the dragging women around on dog leads and all that stuff. I'm not fucking having that.
I'm not saying they're directly responsible but that's how you end up with these fuckin' gangs of youths with hoods stabbing people. I'm not saying they need to sit around listening to 'All You Need is Love'. But kids are so fuckin' thick these days that they are very easily influenced, aren't they?"
- Noel Gallagher (Oasis)

The man has a point. I don't know how these R&B types get away with so much. In an age when women's lib is at its zenith, and people start yelling their throats off if a woman is depicted as a little too womanly, how come we put up with lines like

"If you're having girl problems I feel sad for you son,
I've got ninety nine problems but a bitch aint one"

or even more straightforward - "a dog needs a bitch.. a dog needs a bitch.." ad infinitum.

Eminem, if its possible, is the worst of the lot - somewhere in his first album - apparently - theres a song where he talks about how he wants to rape and kill his mother! I mean, that would have done Euripides proud that would..
And what about good old fifty cent. How come he gets to tell women to shake their ass every other line? And 'Candy Shop'? What about that chick who sings it with him whose name i don't want to remember? How does she keep a straight face and sing "I'll take you to the candy shop... etc. etc. etc. woooooooow"
And then there's Will Smith. In an interview with Oprah (yes, i was sooooooooper jobless one morning) Oprah asks him why he took such a shot at all the other R&B artists, and he says something to the effect of "I just dont want people in other countries to see black people in america as people who keep guns in their pockets and have sex with multiple women at the same time, which is what every R&B video seems to do these days."
A fair point, til you look at one of Mr Smith's videos themselves. Getting Jiggy Wit It, for example. Actually, the title says enough without having to describe the video.
I'm with Oasis on this - I do like some R&B, but its such a return to the caves that I just can't take it after a point. But I'm fascinated at how they get away with so much shit. I think it's to do with the repercussions of years of suppression - now everyone's scared to say anything against the Afro-Americans as a race (and R&B very much personifies that race) cos it would be politically incorrect. But they're probably thinking it inside anyway. Fucking hypocrites.
I think the worst repercussion of this phenomenon is seeing indian boys with fashionable goatees and loose hanging clothes going 'Fuck that shit, man, fuck that shi-i-i-it"
Sheesh.

oh and yeah eminem gets ridiculous..esp his 'ass like that' has way too much of shit to even qualify for a song!it's not music..but they're entertaining and hilarious.nil music but loads of verbal diarrohea, profanity and scope for criticism.
nice post, btw.

Totally agree with you... The new video is a disaster!

Hip hop isn't great... but oasis doesn't do much for me either

@divya,
well, i don't 'fucking despise r&b' as our friend noel does - in fact i find eminem fucking hilarious... that without me video.. its a masterpiece. and some of jay-z and dr dre really gives u an adrenalin rush.
but this violent side of theirs is complete shit, and i jus dont understand how they get away with it.
and thanks :)

@ranjini
corporate voice ranjini? hey hows it going. which new video are we talking about? the eminem one?

@antickpix
ya what is the DEAL with that stuff man? they look like those egyptian pharoahs or something.. is that intentional?
will look for windowlicker.

@anonymous,
well, that kind of wasn't the point but since we're talking oasis, well, they're easy to listen to aren't they? very catchy stuff, but there are some subtleties there... kind of like the beatles actually except not on the same scale.
i still think morning glory is the best album ever made tho.

Go shorty! scream it out for all the world to hear! Hate the stuff too...pointless, errect bastards, all of them!

Small Technical Point... If the Afro-Americans are getting away with stuff cos everyone's too politically correct to tell them anything, how come Eminem is too? He has as much melanin in his skin as Marilyn Monroe, yet, by your own admission, he's the worst of em all. Ergo, the 'too scared to talk back to the blacks' theory is invalidated. What else've you got? :)

@blue cow
fair enough buddy, i see your point. except that i reiterate - i don't hate those R&B people... i was just wondering why they get away with so much... its noel you should be agreeing with!
but thanks for dropping by.

@anand,
as you yourself said, your argument is merely a technical point. eminem is as afro-american and ghetto as it gets, it only so happens that his skin is white. watch too fast too furious and youll see that white lead actor doing his best to be as black as he can.
its like abdul kalam isn't it, everyone celebrates the fact that we have a muslim president, but he is the personification of everything that hindus want muslims to be - reading and quoting from ramayana and mahabharata in a 'secular' manner, and so on.

Anand said...

Oh, I love that stunt in 2f2f where he skids into reverse, and races backwards, showing the finger all the time :)
Apart from that... ok, so now we've got to the point that Eminem is black cos he raps and Abdul Kalam is Hindu, or nearly-Hindu cos he quotes Ramayana? Surely there woulda been infy times when you quoted the bible, so now you're Christian?

Abhinav said...

anand,
frankly no, i rarely quote the bible, tho i have read it more than once. but thats beside the point. even if i were to quote the bible, i wouldn't do it to prove a point. eminem specifically goes out there to prove that he can be as black as the blacks. remember 'what, you've never seen a white person before?' etc. in the real slim shady.
in any case, its just a theory, my suppressions one, and i could be wrong, i concede that... but til a better explanation comes along (you don't seem to be too eager to give one) i think this makes most sense. to me.

I wish you'd gotten more specific, man. There's rap, and then there's gangsta rap. I don't have problems with hiphop as a whole - it's quite cool, actually (if you think of it as a vague sort of offshoot of funk, soul and the blues). I don't approve of gangsta rap though, what with all the advocacy of violence and shit.

Then again, take rock 'n' roll. Everyone from Black Sabbath to the Rolling Stones and even the Beatles have proudly advocated, or indirectly led to: drug use, violence (remember "helter skelter"?), promiscuity and countless other things.

Ultimately, it's all upto the discretion of the listeners. Coz, hey, I listen to the stuff as well, but I don't go around killing people, what?

Abhinav said...

eyefry,
you're probably right... maybe they're less of hypocrites than the rest of them.. and at the end of the day the ppl i hate the most are those fuckin hypocrites.
anyways, thats a good argument, i think that makes more sense than my post.

i was just wondering the same, and id've posted about it if i hadn't already seen this(you robbed my dying blog of a post!). there was this guy i saw on the road today, who had his pants on way below his ass. did you ever take off the shoes of the person in front of you while walking in a line at school or something? i wanted to do that to him, only so his pants would come off. maybe then he'd wear them a little higher with a belt or something.
...i'd hate to see what'd happen if the guy were excited about something =/
and yes! respect to morning glory!

Well.I would not completely agree or disagree with you. I do like some songs of Eminem and 50 cent although, yes, they both can be a "bad influence"(pun not intended :P)

I guess it's cause of their upbringing..Eminem especially, hard life. So i guess when people hear him sounding F***** up.... they don't mind...

As for 50 cent...er.... some things are better left unsaid.

"candy Shop" was .......disgusting.but trust me...it dint gross me out as much as "milkshake" by Kelis did.....

Abhinav said...

y-shoe,
yes actually milkshake is quite gross..
anyways, like i said to each commenter, i dont have anything against hip hop, its just an observation.
in fact i quite like eminem - it so happens that i think 50 cent is a fucking idiot, but thats a complete coincidence.
